New video lays out MIPRC’s vision for Midwest passenger rail

The Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission has released a first-ever video explaining our states' vision to protect and expand passenger rail service in the Midwest.

Produced by students at Wichita State University’s Elliott School of Communication, the two-minute 47-second video is available on the home page of MIPRC’s website and on YouTube. MIPRC debuted it in October during the organization’s annual meeting and visit to Capitol Hill, where it was played during a briefing for staffers of Midwestern members of Congress and congressional committees with oversight of passenger rail.

Great River Rail - November 23, 2019

As part of the annual "Hub for the Holidays" events series, Union Depot in Saint Paul is once again hosting the European Christmas Market on weekends in December. As a special gift, the Northstar Holiday Train will be making a festive and free trip to Union Depot on December 21.

Metro Transit and BNSF provide this great service that will bring riders all the way from Big Lake to Union Depot in Saint Paul where riders can enjoy the market for two hours before making the return trip. The train will not stop at the Target Field Station in order to provide a direct route to Union Depot.

Great River Rail will be on hand to provide information on the TCMC Second Train project and participate in the fun.

St. Cloud Pushes to Extend Northstar Commuter Rail Line North

t’s been 10 years since the first Northstar commuter rail trains began daily service between Minneapolis and Big Lake. On the average weekday, nearly 3,000 commuters are on the train and off the highways.

Initially the goal was to extend rail service to Rice, northwest of St. Cloud, and now promoters of that idea are once again moving ahead.
