I am writing to request that you ask your colleagues on the Capital Investment Committee to support funding for the Twin Cities-Milwaukee-Chicago (TCMC) Second Train in the 2020 bonding bill. 

 

I believe investing in the TCMC Second Train will:

• Create jobs and generate economic growth

• Provide access to tourism, colleges, events, and more

• Improve freight train speed

• Improve safety

 

I understand the $10 million request will improve track and the Winona station platform. This means jobs for Minnesotans and enhanced rail operation for both passenger and freight rail. 

 

Adding a second round-trip passenger train to this route would benefit me by offering an alternative to flying or driving. The current Amtrak service is convenient, safe, productive, and efficient, and the passenger experience is simply better. There's more room, more storage, fewer (usually no) extra fees, and you can work, read, sleep, and visit with friends and family in comfort during your trip. Adding a second train will provide a more flexible schedule and better on-time performance.
