Mark Vaughan
How long have you been in public service?
I have been a City Council representative since 2014. I have worked for over 20 years for the City of Eagan in the Parks and Recreation Department, I currently hold the position of Campus Facility Manager. I have been involved in the Hastings civic community for 12 years as a volunteer on the Hastings Parks and Recreation Commission, Hastings Planning Commission and the Hastings Charter Commission.
Why did you choose to be in public service?
I have a proven record of leading and working on solutions for the community. I have a passion for local government because I like to see results and show the community that they can make a difference by being involved.
What is your favorite thing about your city, county or area?
My favorite aspect of Hastings is the small town atmosphere it provides. Citizens and businesses takes great pride in offering this "small town feel" to visitors.
What is your city or area most known for? What is unique, or special about it?
Hastings has great natural amenities. We have a prime location by being close to the Twin Cities and have the uniqueness of being a "river town." Hastings has some great history that makes us such an interesting place to live and work.
How do people in your community feel a Second Train could benefit them? Or, How do you feel that your community could benefit from a Second Train?
The existing Empire Builder route which would also serve the TCMC Second Train travels through Hastings but does not include a stop in our downtown. Our city officials need to continue to make sure safety is a number one priority.
Why are you interested in expanding passenger rail in Minnesota? Or, What is your long-term vision for passenger rail in Minnesota?
I believe the most important benefit is being able to enhance the existing infrastructure which can be used for both freight and passenger rail traffic.
